Laboratory Level leader#
Management and resources#
- Manages the Level and computing laboratory team and resource issues
- Responsible for deciding the budget for the Sections in consultation with Lab Committee and other lab staff
- Responsible for signing off risk assessment forms for each laboratory activity.
- Allocates duties and timetable slots to ‘Postgraduate Demonstrators’ and Staff Demonstrators
- Distribute list of level laboratory staff to technicians
- Allocates students to individual experiments (L1)
- Arranges and/or gives student briefings
- Checks and returns marks to the Secretary of BoE
- Responsible for overseeing correct procedure in assessment and grading in relation to student absenteeism and illness
- Responsible for updating of assessment criteria and marks pro formae
- Solicits bids for laboratory development activity to be presented at the May Laboratories
- Committee meeting for approval
- Responsible for updating the Undergraduate Course Booklet/web page entry
- Co-ordinates information on DUO for the Level
- Co-ordinates material for Laboratory website and maintains the level web pages and resources.
- Liaises with Laboratory Technicians to co-ordinate printing of reports.
- Provision of Christmas lecture tour material.
- Selects candidates for Florence Nightingale Graphical Excellence Awards from the level and passes them to laboratories committee chair.
Training#
- Co-ordinates training of ‘Section leaders’, ‘Laboratory supervisors’, and ‘Postgraduate Demonstrators’ for each Laboratory activity.
- Informs ‘Laboratory supervisors’, and ‘Postgraduate Demonstrators’ of compulsory attendance at training session. Collects sign-in sheets to check that everyone has been trained.
- Briefs teaching staff on teaching and assessment duties.
- Communicates marking norms to Laboratory Supervisors.
- Co-ordinates marking with Section Leaders.
